House ends the season in a condition unlike any we've ever seen him in.

I take it we'll see him happy and well-adjusted then? (Really, I'm having a hard time imagining something more extreme than losing his mind or visiting the big white bus in the sky.)

Seemed to me like Foreman and House are playing Pips to Chase's Gladys Knight. /earther-shattering quibble

I know, right?

I guess that's what's annoying me a bit - they're trying to make this sound SO EXTREME and SO AMAZING and SO DIFFERENT....and yet, I'm not seeing the actual difference. Devastating tragedy, people die....how is this different from the bus crash? House's mental state is turned upside down.....how is this different from hallucinating sex and basically losing his mind?

I mean, I'm not necessarily doubting that it's going to be good, I'm just not appreciating the superlatives.

Yes, it should either be happy and well-adjusted, or a sobbing, blubbery mess. Neither of which is particularly in-character.

But, then again, every episode is the most SHOCKING!!! evar, according to Promo Voiceover Guy. ;)

We got a crying House in the opener, though, maybe it's compounded by some sobbing!

Same. Just gotta laugh at the hype, though. I can't believe we only have TWO more episodes before the finale. Last season, I could see them building towards something. This season has been... it feels like there was a ton of potential, but very little of it actually potentiated.

Yeah, I've kind of got the same feeling, a bit.

I'm thinking I'm going to do a focused re-watch over the summer, to see whether that's an honest evaluation, or if it just feels that way because I was expecting and hoping for something that wasn't quite what we got.

It feels like at least some of the season was by-the-seat-of-their-pants....I'm wondering if a re-watch will feel more coherent than it felt while on the ride.

Unless they were hiding him, which I sort of doubt, I didn't see Wilson singing in the karoke scene.

Old rumor
Just mixing opld, unconfirmed rumors with new spoilers here.

Does anyone recall a rumor a while back about House having a son? Perhaps that is the big surprise here? If there is an injured son of an old flame (the son would have to be an adult unless they want to screw up that time line too) that could leave House in a condition we haven't seen him - paternalish. Wasn't there supposed to be a dying woman that House can't save? Maybe that is the old flame? It would explain anyway why House would care about an accident more than just the usual doctor thing.

Re: Old rumor
Well, Greg Yaitanes denied the son thing - which I suppose doesn't mean much, but take that for what it's worth.

The dying woman (as I understand it) is the patient in the previous episode, the woman who has some sort of amnesia and doesn't know who she is.

Now, exactly why her death seems to affect him so much, I don't know. And, she's pretty young (I think), so having her be an old flame, or mother of any son doesn't seem logical - plus, House wouldn't have to figure out her identity, he'd already know, which doesn't seem to be the case.
